MOERS, GERMANY
May 22 & 23, various times
Yarn/Wire makes its first appearance at the 55th annual Moers Festival, presenting European premieres of works by Nate Wooley, Jonah Haven and Bergrun Snæbjörnsdóttir.
FRIDAY, MAY 22 - Bühnekastellplatz
After Nan Shephard (European Premiere) - Nate Wooley
The piece, inspired by Shepherd’s journeys in the Cairngorm Mountains and her book The Living Mountain, explores the tension between improvisation and composition, memory and storytelling. Four themes unfold in succession: first through traditional variations, then shaped by the performers - their voices, bodies, and improvisational gestures. For female voice, trumpet, two pianos, and two percussionists, rich and layered soundscapes emerge, punctuated at three climactic points by recitations from Shepherd’s texts.
SATURDAY, MAY 23 - St. Josef
i tell you i want to be one sticking out of the ground like a tongue - Jonah Haven
new work - Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir
Yarn/Wire presents two new works from the Yarn/Wire Currents series. i tell you i want to be one sticking out of the ground like a tongue (2026) addresses Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Drawing on the personal experience of composer Jonah Haven, the piece explores daily life with illness and caregiving. Amplified everyday sounds and musical structures reflect routines, challenges, and the small moments of everyday life. Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir composes a 25-minute work that treats the quartet as an ensemble organism, exploring interdependence, transformation, and the interplay of sound, gesture, and resonance.
